Alistair is a special counsel at Moulis Legal and Head of Regulatory practice. He assists clients in commercial, administrative and trade matters. He has over a decade of experience in trade remedies investigations, as well as customs valuation and classification matters, export controls, sanctions compliance, complex domestic and cross-border commercial transactions and judicial and administrative review of government action.
Alistair has worked extensively with client enterprises, industry and foreign government officials in anti-dumping, countervailing and safeguards investigations. He has represented exporters, importers, manufacturers and governments in over 70 Australian trade remedies procedures and over 25 merits and law review proceedings arising therefrom. This has involved close and comprehensive involvement in all steps of the process, including legal analysis, financial interrogation, and presentation of client data to the investigating authority, on-site verification work, and market and injury analysis.
Alistair represented a significant client before the Malaysian trade authority concerning Malaysian safeguards measures.
Alistair has considerable experience representing clients in multiple judicial review proceedings in the Federal Court of Australia relating to the interpretation of Australian trade remedies law, and the limitations of the power of the Australian government in imposing tariffs. Each of these proceedings were ultimately settled favourably, or resulted in rulings favourable to Alistair’s clients.
